Hunger Task Force – Club 55+ Service Project

Service Project for Youth & Adults Sponsored by Club 55+

Having fun while getting a job done!

Have you ever dreamed of working towards ending hunger in your community in a BIG way?

Thanks to Southside Church’s Club 55+ Ministry, many of us had the opportunity to do just that in May!

By signing up for this event, our group worked with other volunteers and Hunger Task Force personnel.   Individuals from youth to adult joined together to help this leading anti-hunger organization work towards ending hunger in the Milwaukee area.  One of the things that the Hunger Task Force does is  provide free food for local elderly, low income individuals.  Their mission is that “every person has a right to adequate food obtained with dignity.” (see www.hungertaskforce.org)

As we prepared stock boxes of food bought with donated funds, there was laughter and learning and we finished in record time. It was fun getting to know the person you were partnered with, and coming up with a plan to get the assigned task done efficiently.  The experience allowed different generations to connect by working side by side for a common cause.  In the end, we packed 720 food boxes (15 skids) for low income elderly people in about 4 hours.  A fun accomplishment!

After asking a number of people what they enjoyed the most, their answers included; the camaraderie, the fact that this service was a way to make a difference, and that volunteering was fun!  Everyone felt it was rewarding and they will look forward to doing it again in the future.

Southside Church has numerous volunteer opportunities that need YOU!  Become a part of one or more of the ministries at Southside.  You won’t regret it, and the benefit’s are “out of this world”!
