Sanctification places humans in a new standing with God (New Position) which inspires the desire to reshape the way we understand ourselves, our circumstance and our neighbors (New Condition). This is the goal Paul presses forward to obtain by forgetting what is behind and striving for what is ahead. He accepts his new position and works toward a new condition of engaging God, himself and others. He can only accomplish this by leaving behind the garbage of his past.
