2006 SUMMER SERVICE TRIP

From July 12-19 a group of twelve people from Southside traveled to the Dominican Republic where we spent a week doing service projects and sharing the good news of Jesus to the Dominican people. During this time we poured a cement floor, painted two homes, applied tin to two roofs, conduct two- 2-hour long Vacation Bible Schools, prayed for the sick in a hospital, played with orphans and feed the poor. In addition we experienced the Dominican culture, had nightly devotionals, tried many different foods and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. While we stayed in a rustic compound near the small village of Bobita, the work also took place in Puerto Plata, Rio San Juan, and with a village near the mountain, El Moritto. During the week, several people that the group had contact with others who asked about becoming Christians and will be followed up with be the missionaries that live there. Also, on the last night in the country Dustin Dickson as well as a 11-year old Dominican boy were baptized in the ocean.
This work is part of a summer mission program that started in 1997 that involves eight different groups over the summer. Along with two missionary families we will also work with six college age interns that will stay with us, help us, and guide us in our work. For more details about Manna Dominican Republic please see their website.
