OUTREACH

Acknowledging that the gospel is for the entire world,
we are actively involved in missions.
A sizable percentage of our budget is dedicated to serving on the mission field
both in this country and abroad, as well as to missionaries in training.

Currently Southside is financially supporting the following efforts.

Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp

Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp

Set on 450 acres of Wisconsin forest in North Central WI, WCYC is a non-profit camp, established in 1955 and run primarily by volunteers.  It moved to Fallhall Glen in Black River Falls WI in 1960. The central goal of the camp is to encourage campers and staff to grow in their knowledge of the Bible and the teachings of Christ.  The primary outreach is through the summer camp sessions which are open to children ages 9 yrs old to high school, with sessions divided by the age of campers.  There are other camp sessions such as Quest, a multi-age retreat for families to attend together,  youth rallies, young adults retreat as well as individual congregational retreats for churches in Wisconsin and Illinois throughout the year.

Most camp sessions are 2 weeks long and are run by volunteers who are the cooks, counselors, directors, and teachers.  This is how the camper fee is kept to a minimum.  There are 10 rustic cabins that become the temporary homes for campers and staff.  The camper experience often leads to lifelong friendships.  Campers attend Bible classes and devotionals daily, as well as other classes, which include crafts, nature study and athletic activities.  Campers learn to appreciate the nature around them as they are required to “unplug” from all technology.  Devotionals are held at different campfire sites throughout the grounds, with singing and a time of reflection   There are also daily group activities that campers enjoy, such as capture the flag, water balloon volleyball, and tubing and swimming in Robinson Creek, which flows through the grounds of WCYC.

Southside has always been a congregation very involved with WCYC.  Our founding preacher, Monroe Hawley, was also one of the visionaries that started WCYC over 60 years ago.  Southside members have been campers, counselors, directors, cooks and teachers at the place we affectionately call “camp”.  Over the years, we have held retreats and work days to get away from the hustle and bustle of life in a large metropolitan area.   Southside has also helped to support WCYC financially and provided scholarships for campers who are unable to afford the cost of attending camp on their own.  For over 20 years, Southside has also held a fundraising dinner and auction for WCYC, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for this extremely important ministry that is near & dear to the hearts of people across the country.
