This week

No evening worship is planned this evening.

A Family Game Night is planned at the building for Friday June 2 starting at 6 p.m.  Games and activities will include whatever games that are brought, as well as MAFIA!  Please bring a snack or drink to share and contact Kevin Morrill ( with any questions.

Next week, we are planning to collect nonperishable food items for the First Sunday First Fruits program.  The food will be shared with those in need.  Please see Danny Giombi or Jeff Hill for details.

The annual Southside Picnic is planned for Sunday June 4 at area 2 along the Root River Parkway.

Special Events

Club 55 is sponsoring a Bible and water hand-out for those passing by Saturday June 10 starting at 8:30 a.m.  This is open to everyone.  If you have a little used Bible in good condition, please consider donating it to this effort.  Please sign up if you can help pass these out.

Vacation Bible School is planned for June 19, 20, and 21.  Topics for each night: Compassion, Forgiveness and Grace.  An adult class is also scheduled.  Wednesday night after class we’ll share a meal.  Invite friends, family, and neighbors to come join us for VBS.  If you would like to assist in any way or have questions see Kevin Morrill.

Club 55 is planning Picnic On The Farm for Monday July 4 (rain date July 8) at Scot and Shirley Cerka’s place in Burlington starting at 1:00 p.m.  The location is just east of Highway 36 on Highway 11 in Burlington (29034 Durand Ave.).  Everyone is invited.

The area-wide Church Of Christ picnic is planned for Saturday August 12.

Club 55 members are invited to a picnic at the home of Cliff and Sandie Copass, Saturday, August 19.

Club 55 is sponsoring a “Trip to Albania” Saturday, September 23 through the eyes of a missionary family at Southside.  Kevin and Allison Morrill, are hosting.

Club 55 is planning a “Christmas around the World” party on Saturday, December 2.

Sandie Copass is organizing a group outing to the Fireside Theatre for December 9.  Cost is $67.95 per person and includes dinner.  A sign-up sheet is to be posted outside the coat room for those who wish to attend.  After signing up, please see Sandie to make your down payment.

Regular Events

A monthly womens’ study and fellowship is planned for the second Thursday of the month, 6:30 p.m. at the building.  The current course is titled “Before Amen” by Max Lucado to help us with our prayer life.

A 6:00 a.m. Tuesday early morning Weekly Men’s Study is scheduled at the Church building.

A men’s study series is planned for the first Tuesday of June at the building at 6:30 p.m. for a meal preceding the study.  Please see Dan Giombi for details.


Karen Van Handel is planning AED/CPR training at Southside through the American Heart Association for Sunday June 11 for 3½ hours in the afternoon.  A pot-luck is being planned with training to start about 12:15 p.m.  Cost is $40.  Please sign up by June 4 if you are planning to be trained.  Be sure to wear loose clothing you can get down to the floor in.

The children’s ministry is in need of teachers, assistants and subs.  A strong and well supported Children’s ministry is vital to the health of any church, so please consider helping.  No previous experience is necessary.  If interested, talk to Kevin Morrill or Ken Koch.  The “Hands on Bible” curriculum has been working well.


We have an attended nursery for small children during morning worship periods in room 2.  We also have a training room at the rear of the auditorium where parents can stay with their little ones while worshiping.

Free CD’s of the Sunday morning sermons are available from Joel Ribar.  Be sure to specify the date desired.  MP3 copies of sermons are also available at the church web site.

The Library is open after classes and the worship period.  Don’t forget to return any overdue books to the library.  There is a book return box located in the entry way next to the picture board.

A children’s worship is scheduled to begin near the start of the worship lesson time.  Children’s Worship is intended to provide a time of worship for children age 3 thru Grade 3 and to encourage families with children.  Everyone is asked to begin worship in the auditorium (adults and children).  Parents should accompany their smaller children to the basement as well as children who have not attended before.  Before you return upstairs, be sure to indicate to the people at the door if you would prefer us to keep your young person till you return to get them or if it is alright to let them go after the adult worship is dismissed.

Southside has an email list that is used to send congregational news to those subscribed.  Please join us by emailing
from the email account you wish to receive at and stay up to date with everything happening at Southside.  This automated mail list is used for church related matters such as general announcements, prayer requests, the bulletin, and other items of interest to the congregation.  Please see Craig Anderson for details.

Prayer Requests

Andrea Maybin’s sister, Jocelyn McNeil had surgery recently.  Please pray for her recovery.

Lorna requests our prayers for her husband, Jerry Seidner who has a blood clot in his leg and his left kidney has cancer.

Christine Saunders had tubes inserted in her ear to relieve pressure and hopefully restore hearing.

Bruce and Kathy Konves request continued prayers for Kathryn’s parents and family.

Juanita Hernandez has a pulmonary nodule in her right lung.  A second CT scan is planned to recheck its size and to check if it is benign or malignant.

Alex Crivello notes: You guys are the very best.  I pray for all of you who are struggling, or just need a Christian friend.  In the name of Jesus, Amen

Lindy Zinkgraf is recovering from surgery.

The mother of Larry W. Wofford Sr. (Preacher at the South Beloit church of Christ) had a massive stroke.  Prayers are requested that she pulls through.

Pam Plale, had surgery recently and is recovering.

Zoe Alicea asks for prayers for a friend, Charles Rushing, a 67 year old Vietnam veteran, who has been dealing with cancer and was sent back to his home and will not be getting further treatments.  She feels that he doesn’t have anyone praying for him and that he feels alone.

Jim Nichols asks us to pray for all those affected by drug addiction.

Cindy Valodine’s 99 year old grandmother passed away May 12.  Prayers are requested for Cindy’s extended family.

Dorothy DuBois (Dot) Hall, a former member of Southside, passed away recently in McMinnville, Tennessee.

Tom Tremaine was immersed into Christ recently.

Jaylen was born to Najya Mudd and Terrance Barmore recently.  He was 7 lb. 9 oz. and 21 inches long.

Shirley Arnott is thankful for all the love, prayers and assistance.

Evan and Ally Stanger are moving to Whitewater this weekend.

Dan Nichols asks for us to pray for Nancy Putz. (God knows her needs).

Carolyn Gunn requests prayers for her son, Ryan, whose wife passed away in March.  She prays that he would seek out a church to attend and become part of the family to help him through this difficult time.

Prayers are requested for Elizabeth Dickson’s family in the passing of her uncle David Heidemonn.

Mary Anguiano reports the oral surgery for her 2 year old great-grandson, Jack (Christine’s child) was successful.

Please pray for Vicky McCormick, to get a kidney transplant soon.

An unnamed request (God knows who is in need): “Prayers for myself for strength to accept what is in store for me, in Jesus name.”

Denny McCartan asks for our prayers that he find God’s perfect will for his life.

Brenda Baas’ father, Sigurd Skare, Jr., (Butch) passed away recently.  Please keep the family in your prayers.

Ken and Lindy Zinkgraf request our prayers for Lindy’s nephew Brandon.  He is struggling with insecurity and trouble from alcohol.
